Please introduce yourself briefly…
I'm Florian Birnbaum and I'm a doctoral candidate of automotive engineering at the Technische Universität Dresden. I focus on research concerning the interactions of rolling resistance and tire properties, which have a significant impact on vehicle dynamics and ride comfort.
What you will talk about at this year’s FISITA World Congress?
I will talk about the influence of tire characteristics on vehicle dynamics with focus on low rolling resistance tires. On the basis on five physically existent tires of one dimension, the influence of design, construction and material parameters on tire properties are investigated. Objective values are analyzed on component and vehicle level.
What benefits will participants gain from your presentation?
An understanding of the influence of construction and material parameters on objective tire values.
An understanding of interactions between tire properties and the lateral vehicle dynamics.
Which trends do you consider as the most important for your domain of research and your geographical region?
In this context, I consider the electrification of mobility and the autonomous driving as the most important trends.
What challenges do these trends present?
The electrification of mobility emphasises the importance of the tire/road noise.
In autonomous driving, estimating tire properties under all road and weather conditions is a major challenge.
And what opportunities do these trends offer?
An increasing number of new tire concepts and intelligent tires.
