Dr.-Ing. Stephan Neugebauer is Director Global Research Cooperation at BMW and Chairman of the European Road Transport Research Advisory Council (ERTRAC), which is the official European Technology Platform for Road Transport.
What you will talk about at this year’s FISITA World Congress?
We will give a technology based perspective for the transition of road transport towards decarbonization. We will describe the potential changes in vehicle technologies , in the infrastructure and in the energy sector in the next three decades.

The audience gets a technology-based, future picture of the realistically achievable changes in the relevant sectors (automotive, infrastructure, energy).
Which trends do you consider as the most important for your domain of research and your geographical region and what challenges and opportunities do these trends present?
Electrification is the most important technology for future road transport. But the complete decarbonization of road transport including the existing fleet is a long term race and can only be successful, if the transition in all relevant sectors are going hand in hand.
