Please introduce yourself briefly…
MSc in Industrial Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV). I work as a researcher in the Human Factors Area at The Instituto of Biomecánica de Valencia from 2007 in the fields of ergonomics, usability, User-Centered Design and testing in the fields of automobiles, railway and other means of transport. I have been involved in several research projects funded by the Seventh Framework Programme, being the technical coordinator of RUNSAFER project, leading funded national & regional projects as well as projects for private companies in the automotive field and rolling stock manufacturers. At present, I am the coordinator of H2020 project SUaaVE (https://www.suaave.eu/), aimed to enhance the acceptance of automated vehicles.
What you will talk about at this year’s FISITA World Congress?
Although progress has been made in autonomous vehicles regarding technology, there is still a gap in the acceptance by the future users. A key to enhance acceptance is the new approach defined, empathic vehicles. Understanding the state of the drivers/passenger during the trip will be the next challenge in autonomous vehicles to enhance trust and therefore increase acceptance.

Share the results of SUaaVE project as well as discuss the current trends in innovation regarding the acceptance of autonomous vehicles.
Which trends do you consider as the most important for your domain of research and your geographical region?
Effective computing and empathic vehicles will be the trend for the next few years to guarantee the acceptance of autonomous vehicles. Also HMI assistant to inform the drivers/passengers in the trip adapting the information to the situation and preferences.

What challenges do these trends present?
The acceptance of a high level of autonomous vehicles is not high and this should be a pillar for the adoption of autonomous vehicles in the next years.
And what opportunities do these trends offer?
Understanding the drivers/passengers open new possibilities to manage the artificial intelligence of the vehicle as well as offer tailored and personalized services on board.
