ISC Speaker Rainer Hoffman on Assessing the Safety Performance of Vehicles in ADAS and ADS Scenarios

16 July Changchun, China and online

Name: Rainer Hoffman, CSO

Company: Shanghai Digauto Automobile Technology Co. Ltd.

Presentation Title: VTEHIL – A novel Technology for assessing the Safety Performance of full Vehicles in ADAS and ADS Scenarios

Session: SOTIF - Safety of the Intended Functionality

What are you planning to talk about at the Intelligent Safety Conference, and who do you think will benefit most from what you have to say?

I will be speaking about “VTEHIL – A novel Technology for assessing the Safety Performance of full Vehicles in ADAS and ADS Scenarios”. The talk addresses all who are involved in the development of autonomous assistance and driving systems and the safety assurance of ADS.

Intelligent safety technology is at the heart of mobility development – how do you see it evolving as ADAS develops into fully autonomous functionality?

This depends on how you define intelligence. There is no question that advancements in sensor technology and compute power will make further AD-systems possible.

What other factors do you expect to shape the development of intelligent safety technology? (e.g., legislation or standards, new technology, or changing consumer expectations)

Legislation is the prerequisite for any safety critical technology to enter any market place in the world. No difference with ADS. So the critical next step is to get legislation in place.

What attracts you personally to the area of intelligent safety?

I have been engaged in automotive safety throughout my career. The new era of accident free mobility is where we all want to be.

What advances or changes in intelligent safety would you most like to see implemented in mainstream vehicles?

We must make use of human intelligence too; not focus on machines only.

Register for the FISITA Intelligent Safety Conference China to attend the full event in Changchun, or check back on the webpage for the link to watch the Keynote Session, Panel session and 'Impacts of Human Factors on Safety' session live streamed on the day.
