Abstract

Dr. Hiroyuki Hagino, Japan Automobile Research Institute, JAPAN


A brake wear dynamometer with a constant-volume sampling system, the new methodology (JASO C 470), was demonstrated to measure driving distance-based mass emission factors of airborne brake wear particulate matter (PM) and particle number (PN). This research will present for PM and PN emission levels, and show how they are affected by friction components and urban driving cycles.

Dr. Hiroyuki Hagino is a senior research scientist at Japan Automobile Research Institute, JARI. He leads the Environmental Protection Research Group, which conducts in situ measurements of aerosol compositions to evaluate the behavior of emission particles and their processing in the atmosphere. Dr. Hagino also leads JARI efforts to characterize not only brake wear particle emissions and but also secondary aerosol formation from automotive exhausts and to evaluate these impacts in atmospheric compositions.
