T. Russell Shields
T. Russell Shields is founder and Chair of Ygomi LLC, which builds and operates companies that deliver innovative software and technology-based services. He has a 40-year track record of creating and developing businesses that define new industries. They include Shields Enterprises International (SEI), which provides customized call center and managed business services to major multi-location corporations through service centers in the U.S., the UK, Hungary, and China; Cellular Business Systems, Inc. (CBSI), which evolved into Convergys (NYSE:CVG), a leading provider of outsourced billing services; and Navigation Technologies (now NAVTEQ) the world's leading provider of map databases and related software for advanced transportation applications.
Mr. Shields was one of the founders of the organization that became the Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association (CTIA); a founding officer and director of the Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America); a founder and director of the ITS World Congress; and General Chair of the 1996 ITS World Congress. He was also the first President of the Automotive Multimedia Interface Collaboration (AMI-C). He has chaired the Communications Committee (A3A05) of the Transportation Research Board (National Research Council), and is Convenor of ISO TC204 WG16, which develops wide-area communications standards for intelligent transportation systems. Mr. Shields has been a member and chair of many committees of the Society of Automotive Engineers. He received the 1998 SAE-Delco Electronics Intelligent Transportation Systems Award for distinguished service to the ITS industry, was named an SAE Fellow in 2007, and was inducted into the inaugural class of ITS America's ITS Hall of Fame in 2008.
Mr. Shields holds a BA in mathematics from Wichita State University and two degrees (an MA in history and an MBA) from the University of Chicago. In 2008, the University of Chicago Booth School of Business awarded Mr. Shields the Distinguished Alumni Award in the category of Entrepreneurship.
