Nick Powell, Principal – Technology Strategy, Ricardo Strategic Consulting, will be speaking at FISITA PLUS on Thursday 16 July about “Electric and Low Carbon Intensity Fuel Scenarios for Light Duty Vehicles”. We asked him a few questions prior to the event:
I am involved in many projects related to understanding the impact of future technology, focusing on what opportunities and challenges are created for our customers. Many of the projects stem from the urgent need to reduce GHG emissions, for example one project I am working on relates to the potential of fuels, and electrified powertrain technology for heavy duty vehicles. I am also working on projects related to future ADAS, autonomous driving technology as well as electrical and electronic architectures.
I am working from home, as are so many people. Fortunately, the type of work I do can easily be done virtually. Obviously, the immediate impact on the automotive industry has been significant, but the challenges related to climate change and disruptive technology have not gone away. We are seeing a lot of interest in our scenario planning and futures research work.
This is a difficult question. I hope it will lead to a greater focus on other major global challenges, including climate change and sustainability. What is important is that business and industrial strategies are robust to a variety of future world scenarios.
I will talk about scenarios of an all electric vehicle parc compared to greater adoption of low carbon fuels. I will show analysis of some of the implications and challenges of both scenarios. I hope it will be of interest to engineers in automotive and energy industries, and also to policy makers.
FISITA PLUS will happen every Thursday throughout July. Find out more in a recent LinkedIn post by FISITA CEO Chris Mason. Registration for the four tracks with a choice of European morning and afternoon sessions (to suit attendees in different time zones) is available as follows:
