Q&A with Besaliel Soares Botelho, President of AEA, the Brazilian society of automotive engineers

AEA (Associação Brasileira de Engenharia Automotiva) is the Brazilian society of automotive engineers. Headquartered in Sao Paulo, AEA was founded in 1984, and joined FISITA in 2009.


In this FISITA Society Member Q&A, the society’s president, Besaliel Soares Botelho, outlines AEA’s priorities and its role as a facilitator of impartial technical discussions with high levels of Brazilian government participation.

Please could you outline your current role and responsibilities within your society?


As President of the AEA, my mission is to guide and study the sector's issues, such as vehicle emissions, energy efficiency, vehicle safety, fuels, and many others. I work with the Executive Board on behalf of members and stakeholders, discussing and developing analyses and technical studies.


What range of activities and services does your society offer?


AEA is an association that promotes strategic discussions about automotive engineering topics with the direct involvement of R&D centres, government, international associations, academia, the automotive industry, and society. The association also offers courses and events with current topics in the sector.


How can engineers benefit from membership of your society, and how can they join?


AEA acts as an impartial forum for technical discussions with high levels of Brazilian government participation. The objective is to stimulate members to seek solutions for automotive engineering. The association allows direct involvement with the sector. There are three categories of membership, namely company, individual, and student. Membership can be applied for here (in Portuguese)


Can you tell us about the key mobility trends that your society is focusing on?


We are a focusing on a wide range of mobility trends and topics, including energy efficiency, innovation in powertrain, emissions and fuels, safety and connectivity, advanced manufacturing, and lubricants and fluids.


What opportunities do these trends create for engineers developing the technology of mobility?


The themes are presented within technical commissions, events, and courses. All members have access to updated information on the sector through the academies and industry represented in the society, ensuring they are kept fully up to date.
