Novel Approaches for Physico-Chemical Characterization of Brake Emissions

Name: Alessandro Mancini

Company: Brembo S.p.A

Presentation Title: Novel Approaches for Physico-Chemical Characterization of Brake Emissions (EB2020-EBS-031)

Session: Brake Emission Microscopic Level, Thursday 20th May 2021, 11:30 - 13:10 (Central European Time - CEST)

What do you find most interesting about the topic of your presentation?

The implementation of a multi-technique and multi-level analytical approach to a complex problem, as the one represented by the chemistry of emission generated by brakes, in order to obtain reliable results.

When discussing this topic with industry peers, what question are you most frequently asked? How do you answer it?

Even if the topic of the chemical composition of brake emissions is still not so widely and deeply discussed, it generates strong curiosity and interest. This is mainly referred due to its possible future application in terms of toxicological assessment and regulatory. One pretty frequent question is how to obtain reliable quantification of light elements such as Carbon and Oxygen. I hope to provide some useful and interesting contribution to the topic with the paper and the presentation presented at the EuroBrake 2021 event.

Who do you think will be most interested in your presentation, and who would you most like to ask questions about it?

I guess the presentation could be more interesting for R&D or academic people working on the emissions problems. Nevertheless, I hope to receive questions from anyone who can be just even a bit curious of the topic.

What specific topics or technology are you hoping to see in other presentations or in the exhibition?

I would be particularly interested in discussions or works involving the presentation of new technologies for the in situ analysis of the brake emissions or in toxicological studies.

Register for EuroBrake 17-21 May 2021 to see over 100 technical presentations and posters, access technical content and replay sessions for three months after the event, and network with the community in the online event platform.

About Alessandro Mancini

Alessandro Mancini obtained his PhD in Chemistry at the University of Pavia in 2015 in the field of the structural characterization of solids by the mean of X-rays and neutrons probes. He is currently working at Brembo in the Research & Development department. His main activities in the company focus on solid materials and coatings characterization, in particular by the use of X-ray techniques such as XRD, XRF and CT-Scan, and other spectroscopic and imaging techniques. He is currently attending a second Doctorate School in Environmental Science at the University of Milano Bicocca, with research project focused on the physico-chemical characterization of emissions generated by brakes.
