My name is Pier Giuseppe Anselma and I am a post-doctoral research associate at Politecnico di Torino in Torino, Italy.
What you will talk about at this year’s FISITA World Congress?
At the FISITA World Congress 2021 I will talk about enhancing passenger comfort and saving propelling energy by implementing autonomous driving technologies. As example, this can be achieved by adjusting the speed of the automated vehicle while exploiting information coming from the preceding vehicle in terms of longitudinal speed and inter-vehicular distance thanks to vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication technologies.
What benefits will participants gain from your presentation?
A numerical method to solve the optimal control problem for improving passenger comfort and reducing propelling energy for an automated vehicle travelling in V2V driving will be presented. Thanks to this, calculating the theoretical energy saving and passenger comfort improvement thanks to V2V technology deployment will be enabled.
Which trends do you consider as the most important for your domain of research and your geographical region?
Electrification of powertrains and automation of vehicle operation.
What challenges do these trends present?
Implementing effective, efficient, and reliable control algorithms for these new electrified and automated vehicles represents a quite challenging task for engineers nowadays.
And what opportunities do these trends offer?
Reducing the overall carbon footprint of vehicles, improving comfort and safety of each ride might be enabled thanks to these trends.
