This study aims to establish development guideline for evaluation elements of cockpit mood lamp by deriving and analyzing crucial factors quantitatively from the customer perspective, since the evaluation elements are mainly developed by subjective sensibility. The mood lamp applied to vehicle forms various design structures, design shapes, and colors, and this study examines optimization of brightness and uniformity that is commonly applicable by quantitative inspection in the light of users. We have conducted primary research to review evaluation elements for quantification of automotive mood lamps based on VESA (Video Electronic Standard Association). This research derives applicable parts to mood lamps on the basis of evaluation elements and analysis method which are standardized for existing display devices. An illumination system is divided into direct lighting and indirect lighting in accordance with a design structure applied to cockpit mood lamp. First of all, we have converted subjective emotional factors into quantitative factors from the customer perspective on the foundation of findings from references. Evaluation elements for indirect lighting were determined by brightness, uniformity on the illuminance line, light divergence beyond the boundary and illuminance area. Meanwhile, direct lighting was decided by brightness, uniformity on the illuminance line, light divergence beyond the boundary, as evaluation elements. We have reviewed standard for quantification of mood lamps by analysis method of derived evaluation elements. Lighting evaluation of cockpit mood lamp of domestic and overseas vehicle was implemented based on the evaluation elements and analysis method of indirect/direct lighting. Subjective evaluation was conducted by sensibility evaluation sheets composed of user emotional adjectives. Furthermore, we have performed a measuring evaluation of mood lamp by means of measurement and analysis method of the VESA standard examined previously. 10 kinds of domestic and 6 kinds of overseas car models were target for data analysis on the basis of the subjective/measuring evaluation. We could obtain meaningful analysis data as we derived physical quantity which is corresponding to the result of subjective sensibility evaluation and gave sensitive factors to lighting physical quantity. We could also observe the target standard for product development through the data analysis of derived subjective sensibility and physical quantity. Moreover, we have established standards to calculate physical quantity after defining evaluation elements of physical quantity which is subjective factor, and could identify target reference value of physical quantity for product development. The criteria for calculating physical quantity will be applied when developing mood lamps, the target value of physical quantity will be applied as minimum target standard when developing products. In this thesis, the subjective elements have been expressed as a measurable concept of physical quantities within the framework of brightness and uniformity for automotive mood lamps that users consider importantly, and the target criteria of physical quantities for product development could be demonstrated. We expect the indoor lighting would come close to the goal that user desires and increase in sensibility quality of the lamp if derived evaluation elements and target physical quantities would be applied to product development process
