This study presents the field test results that compares the cooling performance of a new class of ventilated brake discs cored by a wire-woven bulk diamond (WBD) lattice structure against the conventional pin-finned ventilated brake discs. The field tests used a medium sized truck as a test vehicle where a constant brake power was applied and the brake discs were heated up to steady temperature (i.e., extended braking mode) at a constant speed of 40 km/h. The WBD core significantly reduces the average surface temperature of the brake discs by approximately 29%, in comparison to the original equipment manufacturer (OEM)s pin finned discs.
