Brake noise is one of the high ranked complaints of car owners despite the massive effort from brake engineers to resolve. Among the brake noise problems, Brake Moan has been mostly problematic with coupled torsional beam axle (CTBA). The moan phenomena exhibits itself as a low frequency chassis vibration accompanied with uncomfortable noise level both inside and outside the vehicle compartment. The purpose of this paper is to confirm the transmission path of moan noise and its radiation source. During the moan noise reproduction at chassis dynamometer, vibration was measured and the path of the radiation source was confirmed by using a Laser Vibrometer.
