Contributing to a Safe and Secure Mobility Society


Aioi Nissay Dowa Insurance Company Limited (AD) is one of the leading general insurance companies in Japan and a member of MS&AD Insurance Group. The company was formed in October 2010 through the merger of Aioi Insurance and Nissay Dowa Insurance, but each with a history of over 100 years.


AD aims to be "the company with distinctive character" through the challenges toward the future in contributing to safe and secure mobility society with market leading insurance services in mobility field. AD continues to provide new value by developing unique insurance products and services utilizing advanced technologies.


AD has long and wide range of R&D experiences using new technologies. In 2004, AD launched the very first automobile insurance in Japanese market which is using telematics technology named PAYD, "Pay-As-You-Drive". The premium is calculated based on the actual mileage data collected through Toyota’s first generation on-board telematics device embedded in the vehicle. In March 2015, AD acquired Box Innovation Group Limited (BIG), the major telematics insurance provider, entering into the telematics automobile insurance market in the UK. Also in 2016, AD stepped into US market by establishing Toyota Insurance Management Solutions USA, LLC (TIMS), a joint venture with the Toyota Group. TIMS aims to utilize not only the mileage data but the driving behavior data to provide PHYD, “PAY-HOW-YOU-DRIVE” insurance. In October 2017, AD established AIS Asia (Aioi Nissay Dowa Services Asia Pte. Ltd.) in Singapore focusing on arising ride sharing/hailing business in South East Asia, collaborating with the major ride sharing company.


All above global activities shows AD’s aim to adopt the new technologies in insurance to provide the customers and clients with the better services and to contribute to safe and secure mobility society. 


With an eye to the future mobility society such as CASE and MaaS, AD keeps promoting multi-faceted development globally in order to create new business models based on such advanced technology. AD will also take on challenge to new risks for the future autonomous driving society through the collaboration with our partners and industry-academia alliances.

The FISITA Mapping Technology Cluster issues its first paper on ‘Optimizing Traffic Flows in Smart Cities’, in English and Japanese version.


For the first time in FISITA’s history we are very pleased to offer technical content to our membership community in different languages!

This Paper includes some fascinating insights into the challenges and opportunities around optimizing traffic flow in Smart Cities and the role that maps play, from a group of technologists comprising vehicle manufacturers and tier 1 suppliers, participating in the FISITA Mapping Technology Cluster in Japan.


This Paper summarises the results of the discussion which looked at the following:

  • Picture of traffic flow controls in Smart Cities

  • Technical requirements for achievement

  • Long-term issues and directions

FISITA Corporate Membershipの代表者で構成されるFISITA Industry Committeeは、今後自動車産業にとって重要となる技術領域を確認した。(これらの領域を右に示す)この領域においての知識の共有や議論は、今後の自動車産業にとって主流となる新たな解決策の採用を、浮き彫りにすると共に促進させることに役立つと期待される。


FISITAはこれらの技術領域に関して、専門のTechnology Clusterを創設した。ここでは独自の活動範囲や議論の頻度、目標とする成果物を定めて活動している。昨年日本においてMappingのTechnology Clusterが設立され、FISITAのInternational Connected Community の利益となるべく、Zenrinとトヨタの主導のもとグループメンバーが技術的知識の共有を生み出すために共同して活動を行った。
