Ford is at the forefront of developing sustainable technologies and next-generation personal mobility solutions. Examples include:

Blueprint for Sustainability

Ford is rolling out a range of global environmental technologies that will provide customers affordable, more fuel-efficient vehicles that emit fewer greenhouse gases without compromising safety, interior room or performance. Ford developed modeling tools to map its sustainability goals, helping to determine which technology solutions are viable over time by balancing customer wants, cost and environmental needs.

EcoBoost

In 2009, Ford introduced the EcoBoost family of 4- and 6-cylinder engines that use turbo-charging and direct injection technology to produce the power and torque of larger displacement engines while delivering up to 20% better fuel economy and up to 15% fewer CO2 emissions. EcoBoost builds on today's affordable gasoline engines, allowing the technology to be applied across a wide range of engines and vehicles types.

Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle

Ford, along with 11 utility partners, the Electric Power Research Institute and the Department of Energy, has deployed a 20 unit demonstration fleet of Escape Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV). The partnership is part of Ford's efforts to advance the commercialization of electrified vehicles. The PHEV Ford Escape uses a high-voltage, lithium-ion battery that can be recharged on standard household current and has an approximately 30 mile all electric range. Ford has announced an aggressive global strategy which will deliver five new electrified vehicles in North America and Europe by 2013.

ECOnetic

Ford's new ECOnetic line of ultra-low emission vehicles in Europe use a combination of the common-rail diesel powertrains with other features engineered to reduce CO2 emissions to the absolute minimum. This demonstrates that favorable fuel consumption levels and significantly reduced CO2 emissions can both be achieved using conventional drive technology, coupled with a combination of fuel-saving measures. Ford of Europe already offers one of the broadest low- CO2 vehicle portfolios in Europe including the all-new Fiesta 1.6-litre 90 PS TDCi, emitting only 98 g/km of CO2.

European Vehicles Bound for North America

Ford is adding several new products to its North American lineup by the end of 2012, including smaller and more fuel-efficient vehicles from Europe, such as: Transit Connect, Ford Fiesta (4- and 5-door), and the European Ford Focus (4- and 5-door). Ford's acclaimed European products are set apart by their world-class driving dynamics, exciting design and outstanding quality. With every new product, Ford is committed to be the best or among the best for fuel economy.
