FISITA, the international membership organisation for the automotive and mobility systems engineering profession, has this week gained Executive Board approval to progress plans to establish ‘FISITA China’, a significant new operation to be based in Shanghai from 1 January 2019.
FISITA will collaborate with its Member Society China SAE on this venture and deliver agreed FISITA products and services in China through creation of the FISITA office in Shanghai. FISITA President Dan Nicholson and China SAE President Dr Li Jun (pictured right) signed a Letter of Intent at the FISITA Executive Board meeting on 9 April 2018.
“Establishing FISITA China is a significant step forward as we progress with our plans to become the over-arching voice for the global auto-mobility sector,” said Dan Nicholson, FISITA president and General Motors Vice President for Global Propulsion Systems.
“It is essential that we have the voice of China within FISITA due to the part that region continues to play in the inevitable industry changes that are coming more quickly and more often than ever. Congratulations to all on the signing of the Letter of Intent, which is a critical step toward the founding of FISITA China.”
Dr Li Jun, China SAE President, said: “FISITA is an important international organisation that has a significant role to play in supporting automotive and mobility systems engineers. China is one of the most important automotive markets in the world, so the establishment of FISITA China, will boost the collaboration between China SAE and FISITA, which will support and develop the automotive industry in our region and around the world.”
Through signing the Letter of Intent, Dan Nicholson and Dr Li Jun confirmed agreement that FISITA and China SAE are mutually committed to work diligently in creating, establishing and sustaining the ‘FISITA China’ initiative.
FISITA will continue to work with China SAE through 2018 and will issue further organisation developments and plans in due course.
FISITA’s developing presence in China is further demonstrated following confirmation of the location for the World Mobility Summit, which will take place in Shanghai, China, on 4-5 November 2018, focusing on ‘Vehicle Connectivity’. This will be attended by FISITA’s incoming President, Prof. Frank Zhao, Professor and Director of Automotive Strategy Research Institute at Tsinghua University, China. FISITA has also recently welcomed Shanghai-based NIO as a Corporate Member - the global company that designs and develops smart, high-performance, electric vehicles across the world.
