FISITA 2014 'Islands of Excellence' to show how universities and students see the future of automotive technology

6 January 2014

Five top universities from around the world will demonstrate the most innovative automotive engineering research projects at the FISITA 2014 World Automotive Congress, taking place 2-6 June 2014 in Maastricht, the Netherlands as part of the ‘Islands of Excellence’ initiative.

The ‘Islands of Excellence’ programme debuted in 2008 at the FISITA World Automotive Congress in Munich, Germany and has grown from strength to strength.

2014 ‘Islands of Excellence’ Winners:
• TU Eindhoven - Automotive Student Teams of TU/e Automated & Cooperative Driving Demonstrations
• HAN University of Applied Sciences - Go-4 Dakar, From Challenge to World Class Performance
• KU Leuven - Indupol one: Performance Through Reliability
• RWTH Aachen - DELIVER - Design of Electric Light Vans for Environment-Impact Reduction
• Czech Technical University in Prague - Autonomous driving algorithm in a scaled environment

FISITA recognised that universities and research institutes all around the world and their students were working on some of the most forward-thinking, innovative projects related to the advancement of technology and knowledge in automotive engineering, but that there was no forum to bring them together to see and demonstrate exactly what developments were being made.

By turning the spotlight on the student engineering talent of the future, FISITA aims to show how bright the future is for student engineers, universities and industry. This unique and global platform offers the ideal opportunity to share knowledge, research and ideas as well as build future collaborations and relationships.

The Islands of Excellence programme also enables student engineers to kick-start a promising future in the automotive industry.
The universities all address different Congress Topics, from Automated and Cooperative Driving to Vehicle Dynamics, Intelligent Vehicle Controls, New Energy Powertrain and New Mobility and Vehicle Concepts.
