There are very few sectors where technology and innovation move faster than the automotive industry, an industry which offers well-respected and well-paid long-term career opportunities for today’s graduates. However according to a PriceWaterHouseCoopers report in 2011, 46% of automotive CEOs say the task of finding the right talent is becoming increasingly difficult, predominantly because there are not enough skilled candidates. In fact, 56% (of automotive CEOs polled in the survey) feared that a lack of key skills could drag down growth.
The report goes on to state that ‘40% of automotive CEOs say lack of key skills has already affected their company’s costs, while 29% report that it’s affected innovation and 27% that it’s affected their ability to pursue market opportunities.’
Your Future In Automotive is a unique and powerful tool to help young people find out more about working in one of the world’s most exciting and international industries. The website offers both education advice and career guidance, featuring an international database of 120 universities (with more being added all the time) which offers in-depth information on engineering and automotive-related courses around the world, as well as a global database of student journals accessible to all online users to help share knowledge and give students the necessary exposure.
The global automotive industry needs to recruit the brightest engineering and scientific minds to work on advanced technologies ranging from alternative propulsion systems to autonomous driving vehicles, in order to ensure safe and sustainable mobility in the decades ahead. But while the industry offers fantastic career prospects throughout the world, today's automakers are struggling to hire enough qualified engineering graduates to drive these new technologies forward.
With Your Future In Automotive FISITA seeks to highlight the diversity of roles and celebrate the huge amount of innovation and cutting-edge new technology being developed within the automotive industry. The goal is to share this information with students and young engineers in order to encourage them to consider a future career in the ever-growing automotive industry.
The website also features a Jobs & Internships listings page for companies to profile their graduate and undergraduate jobs and internships, free of charge. Students and young engineers can search, find out more and apply for roles through the site or using links to specific company pages.
FISITA has worked with Bentley Motors, Ford Motor Company, Jaguar Land Rover, Nissan Technical Centre Europe, Tata Motors Group and Toyota Motor Company, to produce a series of interviews which will be accessible on www.yourfutureinautomotive.com and www.youtube.com/user/YourFutureInAuto/videos. The interviews feature graduate and experienced automotive engineers, as well as HR professionals in the automotive industry, talking about their experiences and offering tips, guidance and advice to young people studying STEM subjects or interested in a career in the automotive industry.
