Dr.Jun Li is now a professor of Tsinghua University, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering.
Dr Jun Li, a graduate with PhD majored in internal combustion engine of Jilin University of Technology（Formerly Jilin University of Technology）in 1989, He joined Changchun Automobile Research Institute of China FAW Group Corporation shortly after his graduation, Since 2000 he had been the Vice Chief Engineer of China FAW R&D Center, President of FAW R&D Center, Vice Chief Engineer of China FAW, Chief Engineer of China FAW. In March 2018 He joined Tsinghua University, became a professor and PhD student tutor at the department of Automotive Engineering until now.
Academician Li had been leading research and product development, science and technology innovation for a state owned enterprise of automobile, set up leading self-reliance R&D system and capacity, accomplished multi product R&D upgrade projects, as well as research projects, such as state 863, 973 programs and important equipment and type R&D projects. In the area of powertrain of automotive he led many projects, such as R&D project of heavy duty diesel engines, turbo charged direct injection gasoline series engines, heavy duty trucks, off road vehicles, and RedFlag limousines, he also invented High pressure injection system with dual rail and variable injection rate, Urea pneumatic injection system, FAW diesel injection system for mass production, fill the gap for diesel engine in China. In the area of new energy vehicle R&D, Dr.Li invented strong powertrain architecture with coupling of motor, engine and transmission. He led a team to research and developed strong hybrid powertrain and Plug in hybrid powertrain for both cars and buses, in the research area of intelligent and connected vehicle, he proposed technology strategies and technology roadmaps for FAW ZhiTu, he also accomplished predevelopment for prototype vehicle of RedFlag level 3 and Smart Vehicle for Smart City (SVSC).
He was awarded many honorable awards, including the first and the second prize once respectively of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, the second prize of State Technological Invention Award, three times for Special Award of Science and Technology Progress of the Chinese automotive industry, twice for first prize of this award. First prize of National Machinery Science and Technology Progress, twice of second prize once, also once wining the first prize of provincial level, he also won the Technology Innovation Prize of the Ho leung Ho lee Foundation in 2012, Dr.Li holds 9 Patents, published 98 papers and one book.
He was elected Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) in 2013. In December 2017 He was elected Chairman of Society of Automotive Engineers of China (SAE-China) until now, he is also Director of Reviewer Committee of Award for Science and Technology Progress of the Chinese automotive industry, Vice President of Chinese Society for Internal Combustion Engines (CSICE), Vice President of China Internal Combustion Engine Industry Association (CICEIA), Vice Chairman of China Auto Talents Society (CATS), Director of Technical Committee of China Industry Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance for the Intelligent and Connected Vehicles(CAICV), Director of State Key Laboratory of Comprehensive Technology on Automobile Vibration and Noise & Safety Control.
Academician Li has been involved in many academic activities, he contributed key note speeches many times at FISITA World Automotive Congresses and Summits, ATZ Stuttgart Automobile Symposium, CTI, Aachen Colloquium, AVL Powertrain Conference, China Japan Korean Forum, IEEE International Conference, SAE Conference, China International Forum on Intelligent Vehicle, etc. He is also eager to present his thoughts and proposals at Top Level Forum on Engineering Science and Technology Development organized by Chinese Academy of Engineering, He also appears and many times at Annual Congress, TMC organized by SAE China, etc. he is welcomed warmly in China.
In 2009 Dr.Li was elected as FISITA President 2012-2014, he has been very active during and after his presidency and contributed to the sustainable development of FISITA as a global leader around automotive engineering community, including the successful FISITA 2014 World Automotive Congress held in Maastricht, FISITA Summits held in Germany and France, most importantly under his leadership 6 Chinese companies joined FISITA as Honorary Committee, or Corporate Members, increasing FISITA’s influence and profile in Asia.
