About this course
If you are interested in designing and developing products, BSc Product Design is an ideal course for you. Perhaps you enjoyed design or technology at A level, and want to work in product design.
This hands-on course covers the design of consumer and commercial products such as white goods, bicycles, telephones, printers, garden equipment and much more. The programme provides you with knowledge in engineering technology, manufacturing processes, materials, computer-aided design and management. It also presents opportunities for innovation in conceptual design and product modelling.
There is a strong emphasis on practical project based study, involving the construction of models and prototype products. There are either group or individual design and make projects in each year of the programme, with a major individual assignment in the final year contributing 50% of your marks. The group and individual project work tests and refines your problem-solving and communication skills. The course culminates in an exhibition of students` work to which employers will be invited. In this way, you will gain the confidence to tackle the demanding work you will encounter in the product design industry.
