About this course
Automotive electronic specialists turn experimental research and development into new products. They develop new models or improved versions of current models.
They also combine creative ideas with engineering skills to produce detailed, accurate visual drawings, usually with computer-aided equipment.
This course looks at electronics used in automotive technology. It covers o electronic engineering o computer engineering o vehicle dynamics o power units and transmission o control systems o braking systems o vehicle design o security o ergonomics o sensors o actuators o display systems o microprocessors o software o communications o processing.
You learn how to design, test and specify microelectronic devices used in automotive electronic systems.
You study instrumentation techniques and look at different types of measurement devices for temperature control and speed. We cover basic programming such as IF statements and loops.
We produce professional design engineers with transferable skills in IT, electronics and communications. You gain practical knowledge of automotive design and manufacture.
You examine the electrical and electronic structure of a vehicle and study good electrical engineering design. You also look at vehicle systems to understand how the parts work together to deliver performance.
The sandwich route allows you to spend your third year in the automotive or manufacturing industries on work placement. Here you can apply your knowledge in practice, gain new skills and learn how the industry works.
