Student Formula Events

Formula SAE / Formula Student is a series of competitions organised by several FISITA member societies around the world, in which teams of university students compete to design, develop, build and race - small, formula style cars.

For the purpose of the competition, students assume that they have been engaged to produce a prototype car for evaluation. The intended sales market is the non-professional weekend autocross or sprint racer. Therefore the car must have high performance in terms of acceleration, braking and handling characteristics. It must also be low in cost, easy to maintain, reliable and aesthetically pleasing.

The competitions are among the most successful anywhere in the education world - exposing the teams to marketing, time management, team building, budgeting and presentation skills in addition to applied engineering techniques.

Based on Formula SAE, which was first developed by SAE Int. in 1981, thousands of students now take part in competitions organised in America, Europe and the Asia Pacific area. Many participants have gone on to pursue successful careers in the automotive and motorsports industries. Click below for more information on each of the competitions.
